This is the tale of a Brother in a Religious
Order teaching at a Remand Home on the Atlantic coast of Ireland
and his doomed love for a ten-year old epileptic inmate. Starring
Liam Neeson as Michael Lamb, a young naïve Brother who, while
trying to come to terms with his loss of faith is made responsible
for ten -year old Owen (Hugh O'Conor) who has been put into the
care of the Home by his mother (Frances Tomelty). The
Home's brutal regime is run by the sadistic Brother Benedict(Ian
Bannen). The death of Lamb's father and the resulting inheritance
signals a means of escape for him and the boy. Masquerading as father
and son the two depart for London only to discover their bought
time dwindleing away. Determined to prevent Owen's return to institutionalized
suffering , Lamb is left with a tragic uncompromising solution
