Hostages graphicHostages
Granada (1992), HBO.USA (1993)

Hostage taking became an important issue in international politics of the 1980's for more than five years. How was it possible for a small country like Ireland to secure the freedom of its hostage - Brian Keenan - when the USA and Britain seemed powerless to unlock the doors for its citizens?

Terry Anderson - Tome Sutherland - Brian Keenan - John McCarthy - Frank Reed - Terry Waite. Six men kidnapped in the Lebanon by the fundamentalist Muslim group Hezbollah. For years they were kept in the most squalid conditions, chained in underground cells. Constantly beaten and threatened with death - deprived of light, food and hope.

Peggy Say - Elaine Spence - Brenda Gilham - Jill Morrell. Four women working tirelessly to secure the release of their loved ones.

Hostages dramatizes the story of how the men survived and how the women learned to lobby governments and the media to propel the plight of the Beirut captives into the public consciousness.
