This is television with class, and also television
with guts. If we must have TV movies based on harrowing real-life
events, let them all be as good as "Hostages". A+ *** A lean and intelligent example of an HBO speciality:
the investigative docudrama... An uncompromisingly detailed and chilling look
at lives in limbo... I was amazed at how honest an account the film
gives of the torturous four years these men spent in the hands of
the Hezbolah... ...gripping...restrained and convincing... ...powerful, a hard, close-to-actual re-enactment...
it's beautifully mounted and wonderfully acted. *** An excellent job of burrowing into the essential,
brutal anguish of being kidnapped and imprisoned by political zealots...
